Chiropractic Adjustments and Mobilizations

Precise joint mobilization and adjustments applied across the full kinetic chain to restore normal motion and unlock your ability to move without pain.

Diversified Chiropractic Technique (DCT)

TARGETED TREATMENT FOR LASTING RELIEF

At Function Performance, our approach to adjusting is highly individualized. We begin with a thorough movement and posture assessment, discuss your symptoms and goals, and tailor each adjustment to fit your body and comfort level. Our providers are skilled in delivering a range of adjusting techniques including Diversified technique, low force hands on mobilizations, and Instrument adjusting techniques for your spine and extremities. These techniques are inherently safe and effective, always explaining what they’re doing and why and with your consent. Chiropractic adjusting is just one of many tools we use to improve your condition when needed. Patient preference and consent is always top priority when considering where and when to adjust, alternative therapies are available.

Many patients experience reduced pain, improved posture, and increased flexibility after just a few sessions. But the real benefit of chiropractic care comes from consistency. Ongoing adjustments help maintain alignment and joint mobility, reduce inflammation, and support nervous system function—especially when paired with rehab, massage, or corrective exercise.

Whether you’re seeking relief from nagging back pain, recovering from an injury, or looking to maintain spinal health as part of your wellness routine, adjusting techniques can help you move better, feel better, and get back to doing what you love.

THE POWER OF JOINT MOBILITY

Restoring movement starts with the joints. Our targeted adjustments and mobilizations are designed to clear restrictions, reduce mechanical stress, and re-establish the fluid motion your body needs to perform at its peak.
  • What Is Diversified Chiropractic Technique?

Diversified Chiropractic Technique (DCT) is a hands-on spinal adjustment method used to improve joint alignment, restore normal motion, and relieve pain. It’s the most commonly practiced technique in chiropractic care and is known for its precise, quick movements that deliver fast and lasting relief.

    Why it matters

The spine plays a central role in how your entire body functions. Misalignments—often caused by posture, overuse, injury, or stress—can interfere with how your joints, muscles, and nervous system communicate. Over time, even small misalignments can lead to pain, tension, and reduced mobility.

Diversified Chiropractic Technique is a direct, effective method to correct these issues. It involves a series of high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) adjustments that target specific joints in the spine or extremities. The goal is to restore proper alignment and motion, which often leads to immediate improvements in how you feel and move.

    What Can It Help With?

    DCT is effective for treating:

    • Back and neck pain
    • Joint stiffness or limited range of motion
    • Headaches and migraines
    • Sciatica and nerve-related pain
    • Postural strain or spinal misalignment
    • Sports or work-related injuries

    The Foundation of Pain-Free Movement

Joint mobility is the foundation of pain-free movement. When joints lose their normal range, the muscles and soft tissue surrounding them compensate, leading to overuse, altered mechanics, and recurring injury. Restoring joint motion before loading it is a critical step in getting rehab to stick.

At Function Performance Sport Chiropractic in Oregon City, we apply manual joint mobilization and chiropractic adjustments to the full kinetic chain, not just the area of pain. Movement problems are rarely isolated to one joint.

    Our Approach

We primarily use the Diversified Technique, the most widely practiced chiropractic adjusting method, combined with graded mobilizations that range from gentle oscillation to high-velocity manipulation. The specific technique we use depends on:

    • The joint involved and its surrounding structures
    • Your symptom presentation and tissue irritability
    • Your preferences and comfort level
    • Any contraindications identified during your exam

Every adjustment is chosen for a clinical reason. Nothing is applied on autopilot.

    Regions We Treat

Spine. Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar adjustments for facet joint dysfunction, segmental restriction, and rib mobility affecting breathing and rotation.

Hip and pelvis. Hip joint distraction and mobilization, SI joint dysfunction, femoroacetabular restrictions. Hip mobility drives a huge amount of what happens in the low back and knee.

Knee.  Tibiofemoral and patellofemoral joint work, plus proximal tibiofibular joint mobilization, which is critical for ankle dorsiflexion and peroneal nerve health.

Ankle and foot. Talocrural joint mobilization for dorsiflexion restriction. Subtalar, midfoot, and metatarsal mobility for proper toe-off mechanics.

Shoulder, elbow, and wrist. Glenohumeral and AC joint mobilization. Elbow, radioulnar, and wrist joint work where restrictions contribute to shoulder, grip, or nerve symptoms.

When Adjustments Are Not the Answer

Chiropractic adjustments are a tool, not a religion. Some conditions do not benefit from manipulation. Some patients should not be adjusted at all until imaging or specialist evaluation has been completed. We will tell you honestly when that is the case and recommend the right next step.

We also never use adjustments as a standalone treatment. Cracking your back will not fix a movement problem by itself. We always pair adjustments with soft tissue therapy, progressive rehab, and a structured home program so the gains from each visit actually hold.

    Part of a Complete Plan

The best adjustment in the world will not help you long-term if the surrounding tissue and movement patterns that caused the restriction are not addressed. That is why our care model integrates adjusting with manual therapy, corrective exercise, and education. The result is lasting change, not a revolving door.
